Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William MacLaren of Duxbury passed away on December 31, 2023 in Plymouth, MA. He was 85 years
old and was a beloved 4th grade teacher at the Kingston Elementary School for 16 years. In the
early years of his retirement, he was a popular substitute.
Born in Quincy, he graduated from Quincy High School, and following the early death of his
father, Bill worked his way through Nazarene College in Quincy and began his teaching career in
Kingston. He lived in Duxbury for the rest of his life. He was predeceased by his parents and
sister Lois. Bill’s early ancestors were among the first settlers of Prince Edward Island from
Scotland. He spent summers there as a child and maintained family ties there all his life.
Fiercely independent and known for his Scottish thrift, he was gregarious, made friends easily
and had a quick sense of humor and a hearty laugh. He loved sports (especially the Boston Red
Sox), Russian history, country music and his beloved dog, Sage. He is survived by two local
cousins, Maryjane Makrides of Dedham and Marion Earley of Westwood.
