Obituary of Mathew H. Hamilton
Mathew (Mat) H. Hamilton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on January 6,2024 after a courageous battle with ALS. Mat, age 61,was born on November 14,1962 to Dick and Janet (Hatch) Hamilton. Upon graduation from Farmington (Ct) High school in 1981, he then attended Norwich University where he completed his Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1985.
Also meeting the love of his life. Mat was very active in his beloved town(Kingston, Ma) politics. He served on many boards making sure the town was as fiscally prudent as his homes finances. He did all this while balancing a career that extended from insurance sales to selling contact lenses. All of which afforded him endless friendships. He also managed to coach his children’s sports and never missed any of their games. It was always a challenge because they were all the same age but it got done.
Mat’s proudest achievement was being the greatest dad who participated in all of their activities. He was always there for all of his kids and their friends up to and including the grand finale of all 3 graduating from their colleges in 2022.
Mat is survived by his wife Frances (Shea) Hamilton their 3 children Gavin, Lauren and Emma Hamilton. His parents Dick and Janet (Hatch) Hamilton, his sister Leigh Rae (John), brother Doug Hamilton (Sarah) as well as his sister in law Barbara Civiello and her husband Jim, his father in law Dean Shea and late mother in law Cornelia Shea and many aunts, uncles, cousins nieces and nephews.
He will always be beholden to the Hilltop Athletic Association (“I Love this place”) and the Upland Club. He will always treasure his PBS-H family and our many adventures, his weekends driving with Paul harassing the town or with Greg cleaning the Upland club ( or whatever those two did), as well as his beloved Key West with the team.
His smile was infectious and always got him invited or not into a backyard for the day of “ projects” that seemed to last all day or weekend.
Family and friends are invited to visitation from 4 to 8pm on Fri. January 19,2024 at Shepherd Funeral home 216 Main St Kingston, MA. A Mass will be held on Sat. January 20,2024 at St Joseph Church, 270 Main St Kingston, MA at 10am.
In lieu of flowers donations are asked to Compassionate Care ALS PO Box 1052 West Falmouth, Ma 02574/ccals.org
