Obituary of Genevieve C. Booth

Please share a memory of Genevieve to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Genevieve Caroline Booth passed away gently at home, in her sleep on January 3, 2024.

Family, friends and colleagues are invited to a memorial service and reception from 12:30-2:30 pm on Sunday, January 28, at the Village at Duxbury, 290 Kingstown Way, Duxbury, MA where a brief memorial ceremony will be followed by a reception and light lunch.

Genevieve was born Genowefa Kania in New Bedford, MA in on June 26, 1926, to Polish immigrants Victorya (Potyrala) and Vincenty Kania. She was the youngest of five children. Soon after Genevieve's birth, the Kania family relocated to Nantucket Island, where Vincent operated a tailor and dry-cleaning business. Four years later, the business was sold and the family returned to New Bedford, with Gen's oldest siblings Lillian and Theodore remaining on Nantucket, to marry John F. Hardy and Dorothy Hull, where both couples raised their own families. During the early '40's Genevieve spent summers on the island, working at her sister Helen's South Beach Street cafe.

Having graduated from New Bedford High School in 1944, Gen earned switchboard operator certification from New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. Though her employment was paused while raising five children, Gen eventually resumed her position at the company, where after 21 years of industry service Gen was inaugurated as a member of the "Telephone Pioneers of America."

Gen married Allan Gifford Booth of Fairhaven, MA in 1947. Allan was employed by the Booth family's furniture store in New Bedford. In 1954 the couple moved to East Freetown, MA where Gen became an avid gardener, talented amateur florist, and skilled cook; yet being a loving mother to five children was always her most treasured role. Always a strongly positive influence, she purposefully taught her children that family and love are everything.

Ten years ago, Gen joined the retirement community at The Village at Duxbury, MA. She will be missed by all.

Genevieve is lovingly survived by daughter Carolyn Walsh (Bob) their children Chad Walsh (Emma) and Gillian Wilkin (Andy); daughter Sheryl Quindley (Roy) their children, Briana Bilotas (Steve) and Cara Quindley (Jay Tamburello); son James Booth (Donna); and daughter Holly Booth, as well as multiple great grandchildren. Genevieve is pre-deceased in

2021 by daughter Lorna West-Freimund (Glen) and survived by their children Sky West (Windy); Lavender West; Sage West (Brit Ison) and Sierra Hebert (Kevin).

On behalf of Genevieve Booth, her family offers their utmost gratitude for the loving, skilled, and unconditional support from each and every member of the Village at Duxbury's community, management, and staff, as well as to Norwell Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice for their caring comfort and excellent hospice services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to NVNA and Hospice Charitable Fund, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061.
