Obituary of Kristine Cushing

Please share a memory of Kristine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kristine L. (Silvers) Cushing of Duxbury, Massachusetts passed away on January 18th , 2024 surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by the love of her life of 36 years, Gordon H. Cushing of Duxbury, MA, her daughters, Melissa Cushing of Carver,  Cassie Cushing of East Bridgewater,, her sister, Shari (Silvers) Sykes of Painted Post, NY, her mother, Wanda Andrews, and stepfather, Tom Andrews both of Duxbury, and her father, William Silvers of Murrells Inlet, SC.

She is also survived by 3 grand babies, Ray, Harper, and Hallie, and many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.

Kristine was truly beautiful, inside and out. She graduated from Duxbury High School in 1988 and during those years she developed lifelong friendships. She was named homecoming and prom queen in her years at school. However, Kristine’s impact went far beyond her beauty.

Many in Duxbury, and the surrounding area, may recall “Kristine’s Gumbo”, a hidden gem on the menu at the old Back River Fish Market in Duxbury. Kristine prepared all of her cooking with much love and butter. In fact, The Rolling Stones once enjoyed a clambake with Kristine’s Gumbo from the market and even ordered a second helping to be express shipped for their show in Syracuse, NY.

Kristine lived by her motto which was “If I can’t do it it can’t be done.” Her unwavering conviction and resilience helped guide her through her cancer treatments, during which she never missed a day of work regardless of the obstacles she endured. For the past 15 years, Kristine worked as an Administrative Officer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Boston within the Departments of Surgery and Cardiology. She took great pride in her work and in the lasting relationships she developed with her colleagues.

When Kristine wasn’t working she kept her toes in the sands of Duxbury beach. She told us she ate at least one form of potato every day! She loved to travel with her life partner, Gordon. Some of the places they visited in the last two years were Aruba, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, and Las Vegas. Kristine was nicknamed “Sweet Pea” by a close friend which stuck for over 30 years and even became her license plate for her convertible, which she had a blast driving around town. She lounged in her new pool any chance that she could get. Kristine loved her children and grand babies fiercely and lit up every room that she walked into. She was always surrounded in love, family and the closest of friends who kept her living so fully. Her contagious laugh and infectious smile will be so missed by everyone.

A memorial service will be held on January 27th at 10:00 AM at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street Duxbury, MA 02332. A reception will be held in the Ellison room at the Duxbury Senior Center, 10 Mayflower Street Duxbury MA, following the service from 11:00AM-3PM.
