Obituary of James F. Landry, Sr.
James F. Landry Sr., 81, of Wareham, formerly of Carver, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 21, 2024 with family by his side.
Born on October 19, 1942, in Brockton, he was the loving son of the late George N. Landry and Eva (Bent) Landry. He attended Brockton Schools where he met his loving wife Peggy (Nash) Landry of 35 years. He held various jobs as a heavy equipment operator before moving his family to Carver in 1972.
He worked for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management as a Forest and Park Supervisor at Myles Standish State Forest for 20 years until retiring; his last 8 years he was the union president.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter, every year he enjoyed hunting for 2 weeks at his cabin in Maine with family and friends.
He was also an expert marksman and won various shooting awards. He was a proud member of the National Rifle Association, GOAL, USRA, IHMSA, and the Monument Beach Sportsmen Club. He had a strong passion for guns, including shooting, reloading, and collecting.
During the summers, if he wasn’t home, you could find him fishing, he also won various fishing awards. He loved picking up various equipment and repairing them. He took great pride in his log cabin home and yard.
He loved his very large family.
Later in life, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and was proud of his tattoos. He also traveled with his partner of many years, Linda J. Beals of Middleboro.
James leaves behind his children: daughter Susan Ohannessian and son-in-law Mark Ohannessian of Carver, his son James F. Landry Jr, of Sandwich, his son Thomas J. Landry and his wife Tammy Landry of Middleboro, his daughter Catherine Landry Souza and son-in-law Paul Souza of Carver, and daughter Laura Landry Brandel of Plymouth. Also, a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Pierce of Arizona.
He was the brother to George Landry and his wife Delores Landry of Bridgewater and the late Richard Landry, he also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his loving wife Peggy, his loving son Steven R. Landry Sr. and his son-in-law Jeffrey Brandel.
He had several grandchildren who he adored, Shannon, Kristen, Sarah, James, Amanda, Jenna, Thomas James, Heather, Marah, Steven Jr., Hunter, Aaron, Alyssa, and Justin. He also had 24 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his partner Linda Beals’ 2 children, David Beals and Julie Sudol and 3 grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for Tuesday January 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Central Cemetery Carver, all are welcome.
