Obituary of Patrick F. Dundas
DUNDAS, Patrick Francis of Carver, MA (formerly of Duxbury, MA) died at the age of 69 on May 10, 2024. Patrick was born on August 6, 1954, in Brighton, MA to the late Robert Edmond Dundas and the late Mary Theresa (Driscoll) Dundas. Patrick served in the U.S. Air Force from 1973 to1977 before attending Central Connecticut State College where he majored in East Asian Studies with a concentration in Mandarin Chinese.
One of Patrick’s great passions was running, qualifying for every marathon he entered. When he talked of racing, he didn’t focus on the difficulty but instead told of the many strangers he quickly became friends with – whether at the Honolulu, the Okinawa, the Chicago, the New York, or his hometown – and favorite - race, the Boston Marathon. He was an independent spirit, but he was also a people person who loved to hear and tell stories – it was the Irish in him.
Patrick had a seemingly limitless curiosity – he immersed himself in reading and often had several books going at once. Irish history; astronomy; Asian language and culture; world politics; running, and aeronautics were just some of the many subjects he was drawn to, and with an encyclopedic knowledge, he would eagerly share what he knew. If the topic was politics, he was always up for a debate - it was the Irish in him.
Travel was a source of great happiness for Patrick – he loved road trips and was proud to say he had visited 49 of the 50 states and many national parks, gathering stories along the way. He would light up when recalling details of vacations in Ireland with family; his connection to an ancestry he was so proud of – the Irish in him.
Patrick put helping others before everything else. We could always count on his “What do you need?” willingness to make life easier. His unconditional love and non-judgmental outlook were gifts to everyone who knew him – it was the kindness in him.
May we live in his legacy, and may he finally see Alaska.
Patrick was a devoted and beloved son, brother, and uncle. His life is celebrated by his sisters Karen Dundas of Carver; Mary Dundas of Centerville; Eithne Dundas (Mark Endresen) of Duxbury; Imelda Dundas (Nathaniel Smith), of Kingston; his nieces Monica Joyce (Toby); Caroline Dundas (Ryan McGonagle); Tessa and Emmeline Endresen; his great- niece and great-nephews Josiah, Samuel, Mabel, Hayden, and Dylan Joyce, and many cherished cousins.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the empathetic care Patrick received from all of the staff at Hebrew Rehabilitation at NewBridge in Dedham, MA.
