Obituary of Anthony M. Lopez

Anthony M. Lopez, 62, of Carver MA, passed away peacefully on Father's day; June 16th, 2024 after a long time battle with Diabetes.

Anthony was born April 8th, 1962 to Antonio and Domenica Lopez of Somerville MA, there he grew up with his sister Theresa. He moved to Carver not long out of High School and bought a house. He worked at car dealerships, Entenmann's as a delivery driver, and then joined the Local 369 as a Mechanic for ComElectric.

In 1979, Anthony met Pauline at their mutual job at the Friendly's in the Museum of Science in Boston. Pauline and Anthony went on to have two children, Arianna Maria and Katerina Anne. They have two grandchildren, Trent Allan and Vivyenne Dorothy.

My father was one of the most talented mechanics ever seen. He could diagnose a vehicle just by someone imitating the sound it was making. Not only was he a fountain of knowledge when it came to the workings of any kind of engine or car, he was always learning about anything new to further help him be a true master of his trade, unless it had to do with computers. In his spare time, he was always down at the softball fields in Carver center. Whether it was cutting and feeding the grass, or laying a new infield and bases, much of his down time was spent there. When he wasn't there, he was helping create the new field complex that is now on Purchase Street, or he was playing basketball in the Carver High School gym. My dad always had a real passion for sports. He may not have been the star player, but he would do anything to support his team purely for the love of the game. He was never too proud to teach someone or give advice on how to be a better sportsman. He was always watching or listening to the games and reading up on rules and regulations, and even was a certified umpire. His knowledge of sports was only rivaled by his knowlege of mechanics; but he was also an avid DIY guy, a real Macgyver . He was one of the most genuine, stubborn, humble people you would ever be lucky to know. He would stop to help someone on the side of the road change a tire, or help you fix your lawnmower if it wouldn't start, but he never asked for anything or for recognition. He taught me to always just do the right thing, even if it wasn't asked for or deserved, but just because it was right. He was the toughest, strongest man I've ever known.

For 30 years, my father dedicated himself to his work, his company, his hobbies, and his family. He lived a full, though not quite long enough life. He was loved by his wife, Pauline and his daughters, but most of all by his grandchildren. They were his world, they helped him keep going even when his body no longer wanted to. He was my son's Papa, his coach, his mentor, and his buddy. What more could a boy ask for? To my daughter, he was a partner in crime, a snack sharer, her biggest fan, and the best Papa ever. My father wore a lot of hats in his life, but his favorite one said Papa. One of his favorite parts of the year was our family vacations. Whether it was Maine, Virginia, or Vermont, he always looked forward to it. There were always 3 things guaranteed; a buffet place, bowling, and miniature golf. He never let anyone win, and to this day swears anytime my mom won, she cheated.

Anthony was a stroke survivor, a cancer survivor, and had a long battle with diabetes. He chose to take himself off of life prolonging dialysis treatments to spend his last days with his wife Pauline, who he loved so very much. He spent her last days, by her side in hospice, able to hold her hand to let her know he was there. A loving, doting and proud; husband, father, and grandfather.

Anthony was predeceased by his wife Pauline, his mother Domenica Mastrangelo Lopez, and his in-laws: Albert and Dorothy Saunders.
 
Anthony is survived by his father, Antonio Lopez of Mansfield, his daughters Arianna M and Katerina A Lopez, his grandchildren Trent A Satrape and Vivyenne D Schmidt, and Arianna’s fiancé Neal M Schmidt Jr of Carver.  He is also survived by his sister Terry and her husband Fran Corbett of Medfield, sister-in-law Mary Alice Bradish of Lawrence, brother-in-law John Michael Saunders and his wife Sandra of South Carolina, sister-in-law Patricia Kelleher and her husband John Joseph of Wareham, brother-in-law Peter Saunders and his wife Kelly of Goffstown NH, and brother-in-law Timothy Saunders and his wife Aimee of Dracut and all his numerous nieces, nephews and great nephews. 
 
Visiting hours will be held from 12:00 - 3:00pm at the Shepherd's Funeral Home, 116 Main Street in Carver MA on Sunday June 23rd.
