He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Soul, his wife Mary, and his granddaughter Dylann.
Joe cannot be summed up by his work or school history. That was not who he was in life. Instead, we choose to honor him with humor and love of who he was. He was first and foremost a proud husband, dad, papa, and best friend to his dog Marty. He was a Sailor in the United States Navy and his love for the ocean continued for the rest of his life. But most of all, Joe’s love for his family was fierce. Nothing made him happier than having his wife, kids, grandkids, siblings, and cousins all under one roof. Even if that meant loading seven of us into one van to drive 14 hours nonstop for a family reunion. He would spend hours watching Disney movies with his grandkids and continue watching them even after they’d left the room. He was the best storyteller and would have his family laughing until they cried. Joe loved the mountains; he was incredible at skiing and snowboarding, and he made sure his kids shared that love as well. He enjoyed a good steak, a strawberry daiquiri, and a smoke, but decided he hated pizza at the age of 54. He was a lover of all music, Law and Order, and Blue Bloods. He despised bad drivers, melted cheese, and every condiment under the sun. He lived life on the edge, was the life of the party, and always the last to leave. He had an unwavering love for the Patriots, along with any sports team his grandkids were on. There will never be enough words to describe the love his family has for him and how deeply he’ll be missed, but we’ll always remember, “In this darkness before the dawn, let your Soulshine.”
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10am-12pm with a memorial service to follow at Shepherd’s Funeral Home, 116 Main Street in Carver.
