John (Booker) J. Sweeney, age 78, of Middleborough, formerly of South Boston, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Born in Brookline, he was the son of the late Michael & Margaret (O'Rielly) Sweeney. John grew up in South Boston, joined the US Marines and was discharged in 1958. He worked as a machine shop supervisor at Anderson Power Products and Tech Etch until retirement. John was a member of the American Legion and Middleborough Elks Club. John was the beloved husband of Janice (Jackson) Sweeney; dear step-father of Eric Nash of Exeter, NH, Stephen Nash of Cumberland, RI, Margaret Carver of Kingston, Kristina Richards of North Smithfield, RI; loving grandfather of ten, great-grandfather of four and devoted brother of Thomas Sweeney of AZ and Walter Sweeney of Dedham. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, (Route 106), Kingston, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, from 9:30-10:30 AM, followed by his funeral Mass at the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury, at 11:00 AM. Interment services with military honors will be held at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Boulevard, Bourne, on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2015, AT 10:30 AM.
