Obituary of Allan D. Fischer
Please share a memory of Allan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Allan Dean Fischer, 75 years old, died on October 6, 2008 following a valiant struggle with cancer. Allan was born in Peoria, IL and graduated from Peoria High School in 1951. From 1951 -1955, he served as an Airman in the United States Navy on the U.S.S Leyte. Allan received a citation from the Commanding Officer for outstanding courage and meritorious service after rescuing fellow sailors trapped in a fire following a deadly explosion. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1959 and spent most of his professional life in sales and marketing. Allan and his wife developed a successful networking business and mentored many associates. An outdoorsman at heart, Allan loved fly-fishing in the wilderness of Canada, hunting ducks from blinds he built among salt marshes, and canoeing and camping with family and dear friends. Allan was a master woodworker, building cradles and rocking horses for his grandchildren, and, until two days before his death, restoring boats. He loved airplanes and became a private pilot at 55. As a respected member of the North River Community Church, he was actively involved in the Building Committee. Over the years he touched many lives in a positive way, and in his last days his brave and upbeat attitude were an inspiration to all. Allan is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria Fischer, and his loving daughters, Susan Fischer Davis, her husband John Davis, and their daughters, Natalie, Staige, and Lucy of Richmond, Virginia; Laurie Smith, her husband William Smith, and their children Ryan, Karaline, and Sarah of Acton, Massachusetts; and Kristin Trojan, her husband Stephen Trojan, and their children Erika, Michael, and Jack of Crystal Lake, Illinois. There will be a celebration of Allan’s life on Sunday October 12, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the North River Community Church, 334 Old Oak Street, Pembroke, MA 02359. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Allan to the North River Community Church Building Fund, 334 Old Oak Street, Pembroke, MA 02359
