John was my neighbor in Duxbury for many years, always available to help me with some pesky carpentry or mechanical problem. When invited, he would regale me for hours with his tales of interactions with fellow sailors, divers, and motorcyclists, always with a twinkle in his eye and a sharp sense of humor.
John indeed marched to his own drummer-he never suffered fools lightly, was always optimistic in his outlook, cared deeply for his friends and comrades, and gave so much of himself to all of us, who will miss him greatly
