I was a schoolmate of Peter's at O'Connell Schools, Dublin, 1958-68. We remained friends thereafter, though we met only occasionally after he moved to the USA. Peter epitomised the school motto 'Ciall agus Neart' (Sense and Strength). He was astute and well-informed and keen on many sporting activities, especially soccer, and later golf. He was enthusiastically competitive -- even in 'friendly' games in contact sports you were safer playing with him than against him.
Peter would have succeeded in many fields, in any country, but I took him to a party in Dublin in 1973 and watched Cupid's arrow strike when he met Susan. So he emigrated to Boston, where his abilities and work commitment were duly rewarded, but more importantly where he and Susan lived out in full their love for each other and their family. He did not forget his old friends, however, and I will always be grateful to Peter and Susan for their kindness to me in the early 1980s.
We were saddened to learn of Peter's illness and grieve at his passing. Our deepest sympathy with, and sincere condolences to Susan, Timothy and Ellen and all Peter's family and friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis/May his soul be at God's right hand.
